Auditorium Theatre Entrance

Cultural — Chicago, Illinois

Roosevelt University requested MGLM to create an accessible main entrance to the historic Auditorium Theatre, masterfully designed by Dankmar Adler and Louis Sullivan in 1889.

At the core of this project is the belief that entrances, stairs, and other elements that fulfill the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) should aspire to far more than bare functionality. In addition to providing accessibility, the new interior space aims to impart the same awe that the splendid main entrance has provided countless patrons over the last century. Designed with an invisible hand with respect to the theatre’s original character, the addition seamlessly complements the lobby.
